Environment

In pursuit of sustainable development Hunter has committed to constantly improve its environmental performance and has systems in place to measure and monitor current performance and progress.
Hunter has introduced and implemented an Environmental Management System (EMS) which gained ISO14001 certification in January 2008. To commemorate this success and to mark the presentation of our certificate for ISO14001, an ‘Ash' tree has been planted, its progress will be reported over the coming months and years.
Certification to the ISO14001 standard ensures that our environmental risks are managed and that we take steps to improve our environmental performance. It is also a means of demonstrating our continued legal compliance.
Policy & Systems
Hunter has developed an Environmental Policy and set procedures to ensure that it has sufficient systems in place to enable us to operate in full compliance with all current legislative instruments, and to identify and meet any forthcoming requirements.
Systems have been introduced which identify aspects of the company activities, products and services that have, or could potentially have, a negative impact on the environment. Appropriate corrective and preventative actions are then put in place.
Training
Environmental training has been provided for all employees. The training undertaken by employees is appropriate to their roles and the tasks that they undertake, ensuring everyone is aware of their responsibilities. It is acknowledged within the business that environmental management will only succeed if everyone plays their part.
Key Performance Indicators
Hunter has developed Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) to measure its performance in reducing energy consumption and disposal of waste via landfill, other improvements to date include: -
- Closed-loop recycling of process scrap.
- Using raw materials recycled from other sources wherever practical.
- Minimising packaging.
- Minimising any potentially polluting discharges to the atmosphere or drains.
- Closed-loop process cooling to optimise water consumption.
- Improved storage - all chemicals stored within secondary containment.
- Improved waste segregation to enhance recycling activities.
- Considering the environmental impact of proposed new investments as part of its assessment procedure.
