Every penny counts
March 2009

I remember being at school and being told ‘these are the best years of your life’ and ‘everything changes when you leave’. My question is why does time go so much quicker? At school you pray for the half term, now it feels as if I blink and we are another month into the year! Quite scary really..
On that note, am I the only one that's finding all the constant talk of recession pretty scary? I don't really remember the last one so I guess in some ways I didn't quite know what to expect from this one. I'm shocked by how deeply everyone is affected by it.
I don't know about you but I'm noticing it at work and at home. Its crazy how small things like going clothes shopping change. It's not a matter of ‘I want new clothes' anymore, now I buy something and find myself on the verge of taking it back an hour later - after all every penny counts now! Snakehips on the otherhand is delighted that he doesn't get dragged around Bluewater anymore!
All the changes in interest rates concern me too. I only got my mortgage a year ago and I must admit I do wonder if I've done the right thing, especially with house prices coming down. But if I had waited would I have been able to get a mortgage?
At work its no surprise that we've been affected really, after all, the whole construction industry has felt the impact. The news that our manufacturing will be moving to Lenham was a shock, and I'm sad that we are losing some great personalities from our site. Our loss is definitely Lenham's gain - as Mr B said "people here are best in class!"
Lets keep our fingers crossed that the ‘Get Britain Building' campaign will have a positive effect. I know Hunter are proud to be supporting it, we've got a sticker on our entrance door and even in Mr B's car!
Completely changing the subject, I cant forget to mention our resident fundraising experts. Once again the Sales Office are on top form and are holding a cake sale for Red Nose Day! If any of my fellow colleagues are reading this, Friday the 13th is time to raid your piggy bank and wear some expanding waist trousers! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Walnut Cake...yummy!
PS: Don't forget to take a look at the ‘Get Britain Building' campaign at www.getbritainbuilding.org.uk! Its our chance to take action, so lets ALL get behind it!
